Photographed over our garden some time ago. The American Indians called it a 'Sundog' and it was a good omen for hunting Buffalo.

That is really exceptional in composition and pretty unique in content (until George tells us otherwise). Didn't see any of your recipes for cooking buffalo so I suppose Mr Lewis was too idle to go hunting.

Superb Jen, really well caught, I suspect the compression has done something odd, but it's still a cracking shot for me. Can't remeber if you like the star system or not, but have given it a 5 it's so striking and original!

Captured perfectly and not easy to do so. Without looking it up, caused by ice crystals higher up in the atmosphere.

The picture is spectacular! I've noticed one of these lately (twice) but did not know about them and I thought that they were just a reflection of the windscreen.

A variation on a rainbow - you may be interested to know that it is quite common to see completely circular rainbows from an aircraft. Although I have seen lots of those, I have never seen this particular variety, not heard of the term Sundog before now! I have seen something similar in the mist from a waterfall - they make a nice picture, however they appear!
